This one was sitting, waiting patiently, on my bookshelf before I finally got around to pulling it from the shelf and diving in. I let myself enjoy the magical touches through out the pages, and felt it was a blend of magic, self discovery, mystery, special touches for fellow book lovers and a gentle romance.
The Lost Bookshop takes us along a beautiful story of Martha and Henry, as they navigate their current worlds. Martha, who flees an abusive relationship to rebuild herself, and Henry, who is following his passion and interest in original literature pieces. And Opaline, living in the early 19th century, through her passions, love and lost, as she also follows her passion of books, stories and determination to follow them. A unique touch throughout the book there are mentions and connections to our favorite books over the years.
What I enjoyed most about this book is the blend of so many different aspects. It pulled from history, following Opaline’s journey as a woman in the 1920s, and diving into the history of women in literature. But it also had this subtle touch of magic, letting me fall into a story full of imagination, mystery, leaving me wondering about different connections and hints, and lastly a lot of self discovery for all characters with the dash of a love story.
This mix is not for everyone, but if any of the aspects are something you enjoy, I encourage you to give the other pieces a chance, to dive into a story and let your imagination wonder.

“Lost is not a hopeless place to be. It is a place of patience, of waiting. Lost does not mean gone for ever. Lost is a bridge between worlds, where the pain of our past can be transformed into power. You have always held the key to this special place, but now you are ready to unlock the door.”
“Some things are meant to be flawed. Therein lies beauty”
“He always said that books were more than words on paper; they were portals to other places, other lives. I fell in love with books and the vast worlds they held inside, and I owed it all to my father.”
“[H]ow many paperbacks, manuscripts, handwritten drafts have been lost or forgotten throughout history? The number is infinite. How many forgotten libraries remain hidden […] Who is to say what treasures are yet to be rediscovered, what lost things are waiting to be brought to light?”
The thing about books,’ she said, ‘is that they help you to imagine a life bigger and better than you could ever dream of.
