5 Favorite Ways to Frame & Hang Art, Photos, and More

Whether it’s family photos, candid snapshots of the kids, artwork from your favorite littles, or prints that capture your style, the way you frame and hang them adds another layer of design and personality.

Beyond choosing the right pieces (check out my favorite art selections here), how you display them makes all the difference. Here are my top five favorite framing and hanging methods—chosen for their versatility, ease of use, and overall aesthetic feel.

1. Floating Frames

Floating frames are a clean, modern way to showcase art and photos. Whether in wood or metal, they create a light, modern look that lets the artwork take center stage.

• Pros: Flexible sizing—your artwork doesn’t need to fit a precise frame size. Plus, they add a sleek, polished feel to any space.
• Cons: Since they use clear glass or acrylic, you’ll see whatever’s behind them—so if you’ve patched a few too many nail holes, they might not be the best option for that wall!

This photo is a vintage canvas I found, the poster hanger works perfect, I use it for this piece in the winter and can easily swap it out for the rest of the year.

• Style Tip: Go for a natural wood clipboard for a minimal look or paint one in a color that complements your space. I personally love DIYing these for a custom feel.
• Potential downside: If you’re displaying thinner paper or photos, the corners can curl over time, but a small double-sided adhesive dot can help keep them flat.

4. White Mattes

While matting comes in all colors, a crisp white matte is my go-to. It allows the artwork to shine while working seamlessly with any décor style.

• Pro Tip: For a more upscale look, choose a wider matte. Want something unique? Try an off-centered opening or split a picture into two.
• Budget-Friendly Hack: Instead of custom framing, just get the matte. Stop into your local frame shop—getting a matte that is cut to the frame and art you already have. It’s a simple upgrade that makes a big impact.

5. Wood-Mounted Art

This is my most-used method for displaying my own art! Mounting artwork onto a wood block adds warmth and texture, enhancing the natural beauty of the piece.

• Style Tip: A dark walnut stain makes colors pop, while a raw or lightly sealed finish keeps things subtle and organic.
