Morning and evening routines have a huge impact on our days and evenings, from preparing the the day ahead to giving time and space to start slowing our bodies and mind. As routine user myself I am all for the tasks and routines that play a role during these times of the day.
However, the tasks are just one part of the impact, I have found these 5 unexpected bathroom must haves, not only enhance our bathrooms but they also support our morning and evening routine.
Depending on when your home was built this may be a standard in your electrical. For us, living in an old farmhouse it has been an add on as we update spaces. When we updated the upstairs closet to create our second bathroom I knew I wanted dimmable lighting. We have it on the main flush mounted light AND for the shower can light.
The flush mount light is from Home Depot – OPEN HERE – not only is the main light dimmable, it has a night light option, which also dims from our switch. Having the ability to set the lighting for the mood and need is so helpful. My favorite is in the evening when I shower I set the can light in the shower lower and I use the night light option for the main light when the kids are waking up.
Sticking with lighting, let’s talk about number 2.
Just like number 1 the impact of light in our day may go unnoticed, but it is there. Extra bonus, the lamp we use is a candle warmer, so in addition to the lighting impact, the option to have your favorite scent filling your space only helps the mood you want to experience. My SIL got me hooked on candle warmers, I started with this one and I have since added two more in our house! Ok but back to the bathroom.
After I tuck in the kids, I head to the bathroom to wash my face, brush my teeth and turn on this lamp, it is a subtle sign for me to start slowing down. The hustle and bustle of the day and getting the kids through their evenings is done, now it is time to shift into a slow and quiet evening. Shop this one or check out all the options my SIL with Ave + Co shares on her IG page.
This one was a game changer for me! I added a clock for the primary reason of not wanting to look at my phone every time I wanted to check the time, specifically when the kids and I are getting ready in the morning. And let me tell you, it worked! I reference the clock multiple times through out the day, and it has decreased my phone checking AND the lingering feeling of “shoot are we late”. Extra bonus it has been a helpful tool to show the kiddos what time it is. With the digital age, it is not always easy to learn!
The small wood one is in our upstairs bathroom and the black one is in the downstairs bathroom, here is a comparable one.
Specifically art that makes you happy and smile, calm and relaxed, or whatever energy you want your bathroom to give you. I have pieces I created, to reframed favorites passed on from family. Yours may be pieces you have curated through local artists, thrifting, passed along or discovered any point along the way. Let it be art that brings you the energy you want, and supports you in your day, or as you wrap up your evening. Follow me on Facebook for new releases of sketches and quotes!
The bathroom is always a tricky spot with windows, we want the natural light, but also want to keep some privacy. With our upstairs bathroom remodel I knew a Top Down, Bottom Up shade would be ideal. It allows us to not “frost” the window in any manner, while still allowing light AND privacy. Just another way lighting is impacting our day!
There you have it! 5 easy add ins and change ups to enhance your bathroom AND your routines. I encourage you to pick at least one to add to your bathroom, you will be surprised at the unexpected impact these simple changes can have in your day!
Which one are you going to try?
