When I was younger my bed was lofted and I created a reading nook under it, with a lamp, pillows, blankets and of course books. I loved it, it was a special place to curl in and I am sure I felt like a “big kid” reading books in the space. As an adult I don’t have a book nook like that but I have several areas I love to settle in to read (or listen), and the enjoyment of getting lost in a story or growing from a new perspective continues 30 years later.
Reading has been one of my most consistent habits, (or hobbies, depending on how you look at it) in my life. From fiction to non-fiction, the endless range in genres and stories to be cherished, I have enjoyed and learned so much. Reading brings me so much joy, and with my mission to help individuals find more joy in their life, I would be remiss to not include one of my favorite joys.
Recently, I have been reflecting on the community and connection that comes with books. This fall I started sharing the books I read through my socials. Sharing these have not only been a personal delight but has also fostered connections and sparked conversations. I have genuinely cherished the opportunity to connect with others through our shared love of books.
We have shared our favorites, we have stepped outside of our comfort zone to try a new genre, we have passed on insights and reviews of books, and we have connected on stories of struggle and hardship, resilience and inner strengths, on true stories and those beautiful imagined . We have shared the books that left a lasting impression, or made us a little jumpy, the ones that made us cry, the ones that kept us up late past our be time and the ones that gave us a new perspective.
To all of you who have shared in the above, thank you!
How have books created connections for you?
With my joy of reading and the joy of sharing them with you I was very excited when I discovered Bookshop.org. Are you like me, and enjoy the slow pace and carefree wonder through a book shop? I LOVE when I get the chance to do this, but it is not often. Even though I do not have the chance to physically wonder in an independently owned book store, Bookshop.org provides us the opportunity to shop online, sometimes our best option if looking to buy a new book, BUT with the ability to support the locally owned stores!
