Light, it can come from one small candle, the rise of the sun or a shift in the clouds. With the flick of a switch, turn of a lamp knob or the energy you bring into the room.
Regardless of how light enters your day it serves a purpose. There are many ways to add more light to your day, and in various forms. From bright and cheerful, to calming and comforting.
Add a lamp in your bathroom, just a little one! Trust me, it may sound like an odd place for a lamp but I have LOVED the new addition. I have this Candle Warmer Light ( a new obsession, inspired by Ave & Co. I have three of them!) in our upstairs bathroom. Use the subtle light of a little lamp to wake up your day, it has a gentle glow that gives just enough light to start our day with a peaceful ambiance. Then in the evening it does the opposite for us, creating a soothing atmosphere as we bring our day to a close. Taking a shower with just the lamp and the dimmed shower light has become a key part in my evening routine.
Shifting from the mood that is set in our homes with lighting, the light and energy we receive from the sun is impossible to deny. Get Outside! I know it sounds simple, but with our busy schedules and for some of us, long winters, our body and soul craves it. I have been working on hitting 1000 hours outside for the past couple of years. I haven’t hit it yet, but it is growing each year. The organization 1000 Hours Outside is an awesome resource, they have fun (FREE) trackers, this is the one I am using this year, a great Facebook group with tons of outside activities, a blog, podcast and so much more.
The sunrise, of course, doesn’t care if we watch it or not. It will keep being beautiful, even if no one bothers to look at it.

Make light part of your routine. The last two are somewhat examples of this… have a lamp in the hall on during evening reading and bedtime routines, verses the overhead light. Have a gentle light on down downstairs to gently wake you up as you doing your morning to dos. Open the shades as part of your morning routine, head outside for a walk. Pause and look up to the sun when it is out welcoming us with a bright glow. Things that have helped me with this is a dusk to dawn sensor for porch lighting, a remote for turning on lamps, (this is the one I use, and love it!) and dimmer switches.
Loving your lights helps too, meaning, pick lights that you enjoy, that bring you joy. It may be a candle warmer, a beautiful family heirloom or a great thrift find, either way be sure it is something you enjoy.
So I maybe tossed out more than three, the last one, the tip of adding light as part of your routine may be a cheat as I tossed in lots of examples that I have delighted in. But I am sure no one minds! Light plays a bigger impact in our day then we give it credit for. Fortunately, there are lots of ways that you can add the magic of light to your home, routine and day.
I would love to hear what way you plan to add more light to your home and day! Are there ways you are already using the peaceful ambiance of light? Or adding the uplifting energy we can soak in from the sun’s light? I would love to hear your thoughts? Comment below!
